CIFAL Flanders has given two SDG Lectures at APEC Antwerp on April 4 and May 15. APEC Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Centre is an international training centre for port and maritime matters, affiliated with the Port of Antwerp. The institute conducts seminars, courses and study visits as well as interactive workshops and seminars for international guests visiting Flemish ports.

In the context of two three-day workshops on Corporate Social Responsibility organised by APEC for the head office of the Autonomous Port of Conakry (Guinea), CIFAL Flanders gave a lecture on the framework of the 2030 Agenda of the UN, the Sustainable Development Goals and the strategic implementation of the goals in practice. Our managing director, Peter Wollaert, clarified how the SDG’s came into being and which principles are at the core of the 2030 Agenda, and took up the topic of sustainable development in Africa.

The second session (May 15) was given in collaboration with CAP conseil, a research and consultancy company specialised in sustainability and social responsibility. The output of both sessions was to create insight on the content of the SDGs and on how to take them into account in the strategy of the Port of Conakry.

Some reactions of the participants:

“The theme of this lecture was highly relevant, in the sense that sustainable development protects the future generations. We very much appreciated this lecture which is a real lesson for everyone.”

“This lecture has provided us the context of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda needed to be able to contribute to sustainable development in order to create a peaceful society.”
