On June 5, CIFAL Flanders attended the European Development Days 2018 in Brussels. This year’s theme was “Women and girls at the forefront of sustainable development: protect, empower, invest”. This theme covered three topics that are emerging as key priorities in today’s context: ‘Ensuring the physical and psychological integrity of Girls and Women’, ‘Promoting economic and social rights and empowerment of Girls and Women’, ‘Strengthening Girls’ and Women’s voice and participation’.

Our team volunteered at the United Nations stand, where participants were encouraged to engage with the SDGs by taking pictures with their favourite SDG at the photo wall, including SDG angel wings coming to life with the support of an application. They could also write on a graffiti wall on what the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights meant for girls and women, as well as watch some interesting virtual reality films.
